CONVERSATIONAL COLLECTION

PHOTOGRAPHED BY: SONYA SELLERS

This young professional couple desired a classic traditional dining room design with a modern twist. Chairs with luxurious color and texture provide seating for 8 around a dark stained wood grain table with metal legs in a tailored crisp design inspired by architecture. Blue and green accents throughout the house punctuate the neutral backdrop. Deep moss green velvet upholstery is inspired by the whimsical wallpaper design featuring a modern version of the ming vase. The traditional vine lattice design of the rug contrasts with the modern gold end chairs which seem to have been crinkled to perfection, suggesting sculptural art. Custom roman shades in classic navy and white linen allow the wallpaper to play the starring role. We selected a modern 14 arm chandelier in soft gold for a glamorous nighttime glow. By adding pattern, texture and sculptural end chairs we were able to add interest with minimal furnishings allowing for plenty of circulation space.

After you pass through the dining room you are directed into the open concept kitchen and then into the family room. This room opens to the outdoor terrace and provides the perfect opportunity for indoor/outdoor living. The large expanse of sliding doors is softened with custom solar shades concealed by a metal valance. Stained wood floating shelves flank the fireplace surround featuring library style carpentry molding. The large rug features an updated traditional motif in a stain resistant durable design. We fitted the room for maximum comfort with an oversized sectional sofa, tufted leather armchair and a pair of swivel chairs featuring stained wood accents. A woven seagrass coffee table contrasts with occasional tables in metal and colorful painted wood. Linen textures mix with velvet and leather in neutral tones accented with blue and earthen clay to create a serene palette. Large plants blur the line between outdoors and in. In the adjoining seating area we designed a built-in banquette and oval table custom made with dual metal bases reminiscent of a French cafe.Sculptural art in acrylic shadow boxes add dimension and texture above the sofa along with a large framed African Kuba cloth above the banquette outfitted with custom cushions.

Since our clients are so busy with work and family we wanted a relaxing bedroom retreat in soft blue tones. The double piped upholstered headboard serves as an anchor between 2 whitewashed nightstands with pullout shelves for room service right at home. A pair of distressed clay lamps have woven seagrass shades providing a global twist similar to the unique bench with a woven cane seat. Natural materials such as linen, wood, marble, clay, seagrass and cane add natural texture and pattern. The rug features a design reminiscent of mosaic tile in shades of blue with small ocher accents. A sitting area is the perfect place to read a book with abundant natural lighting in the day and blackout drapery at night. Two generously scaled, tailored, arm chairs in soft blue performance fabric maximize comfort. This area includes a floor lamp, leather and metal ottomans and a marble topped occasional table with a tripod base. Neutral linen drapery with a 24” sand-beige accent at the bottom was selected to soften the room without adding a jolt of color. Nearby, a mid century style bar cart was chosen to hold books and coffee service. The two windows flanking the bed are dressed in custom roman shades with beige trim on 3 sides. All custom drapery provides black out coverage for restful late mornings.
